“Being terrified but going ahead and doing what must be done — that’s courage.  The one who feels no fear is a fool, and the one who lets fear rule him is a coward” – Piers Anthony

When discussing courage, I have always noticed that fear and faith are always apart of the conversation.  Over the years, I have learned that fear is contaminated faith.  Fear and faith are polar opposites.  I can’t have fear when I have faith.  I can’t have faith when I have fear.  I must choose which one I am serving.

Most recently one of my mentors informed me that fear last 5 to 7 minutes in the body in its clear clean state.  Fear is a wake up call.  Really?  That’s all it is.  I hadn’t looked at fear in that manner at all.  If it only last 5 to 7 minutes, why do I feel like it hangs around for months, years?  Because I allow it to.

My experience with fear has been paralyzing in my life many times.  Other times, I have walked in the midst of fear and feel exuberant that I conquered the fear and moved into faith by taking just that one step out of my comfort zone.

I agree with Piers Anthony – “Being terrified but going ahead and doing what must be done – that’s courage”.  What will you courageously do today?   Do you challenge yourself to do one thing a day that takes you out of your comfort zone?  This is a good goal to set for yourself.  The more you live outside of fear, the more courageously you live.  I choose to see faith like a muscle, the more I practice it, the better I get at living it.

I choose to live courageously minute by minute, day by day.  When I find myself back in the muck of living fearfully, I am reminded to wake up as soon as I can and do as the title of Susan Jeffers book states – “Feel the fear and do it anyway!”
