Let your Rear View Reflections of 2018 turn into your Absolute Best 2019!  New Year, New Beginning!  In order to really make 2019 different than 2018, you must reflect back.  What was the good?  What was the okay?  What do you not want to repeat in 2019?  Those are just a few of the basic questions you must ask yourself.  Otherwise, when you don’t do this, it is so easy to repeat over and over and over again some of the things in your life that just don’t nurture you, inspire you or benefit you.  I do not believe in wallowing in our past, not even a second ago.  I do believe that we can take the life lesson(s) and learn from them and adjust, just like the stealth bomber does.  While in air, the stealth bomber steadily adjusts. Be the stealth bomber of 2019.

Rear View Reflection 2018:  At break today, pull out a notebook.  Draw a line in the middle of the page.  At the top put 2018.  On the left side, write out the good, the pros, the blessings of 2018.  Write until you can’t write anymore.  There is so much to be thankful for.  What are those things, people, events, etc.  You may find yourself even smiling when you write out what I call the Blessings list.  On the right side, write out the pain, the challenges, the toxicities of 2018.  Feel what you felt.  Decide right now, do you prefer the pain of becoming disciplined or the pain of regret of living an unfulfilled life?

Game plan for an Absolute Best 2019:  What are 3 goals for the first 13 weeks of 2019?  I love this approach that I got from the Best Self journal.  Every single day, move the needle toward that goal.  Hold yourself accountable. Keep your goals in front of you.  Review them am, lunch and pm.  Visualize seeing yourself achieving the goals.  I like doing at least one task toward a particular goal a day.  Just like working out, I like doing legs one day and upper body the next and so on.  Sunday night reflection is a great time to review your progress and determine if you need to adjust goal in any way.

Be intentional, committed and honest with yourself. It’s also very important to give yourself grace, if you fall off of goal.  Giving grace is not quitting.  Giving grace is simply starting over again with the goal – immediately!  I call them New Beginnings!   Have as many New Beginnings as you need to, even after eating the pie you said was no longer on your diet.

No matter what you do:  Let your Rear View Reflections of 2018 turn into your Absolute Best 2019!  Remember you can’t change the past, but you can do absolutely EVERYTHING about the future!
